In Limbo
We closed on the new house first thing this morning. But Santa Fe has a system that requires the deed to be filed at the courthouse before you can get the key and take possession, and on a Friday in the summer. . . well, we are in limbo, waiting for that to happen.
It may happen late this afternoon, but if not, we will still be in a hotel all weekend until the courthouse opens up on Monday.
It doesn't really matter. We can't actually move in -- it is unclear when the moving van will arrive. Despite a contract with a promised delivery date of tomorrow, August 5, the truck is still on the east coast, waiting for additional loads to fill it up before eventually starting out cross country later this month.
We have nothing -- just our suitcases with clothing we packed for the trip, so even trying to camp out in an empty house is going to be a challenge for the next couple weeks. We can pick up the bedding we shipped at the UPS store next week, so at least we'll have pillows and blankets, but no beds.
We'll try to stock cold foods and paper goods and we'll have to buy air mattresses and towels, and two lawn chairs so we can sit somewhere, and a cheap small TV so the internet guy can hook up service next week . . . so here we are buying things we won't need in the future, just after we spent all winter getting rid of so much stuff we bought and didn't need at the old house.
People move cross country all the time -- it can't always be like this, is it?
