The Banded Geckos

Everyone is eager to socialize and we're all trying to figure out how. Last week I went to an outdoor concert in the neighborhood and it was . . . different.

One street over the neighbors hosted an evening concert. It was a string band called The Banded Geckos, and they played on the front portal while we all sat 6 feet apart in lawn chairs out in the street. There were about 20 of us spread out, and masked.

They were amped and mic'd so even though we sat a distance away, the sound was good. The female singer's voice was lovely, just lovely. They did some stomping tunes and some ballads and some funny joke songs. There were harmonicas. And banjos.

It was difficult, though, to socialize at all. Everyone was masked and stayed at a distance. I chatted a bit with the host and I had some conversation with my closest neighbors who were there, but nothing like a pre-virus get together where people would converse and catch up and exchange real news.

But it was a nice evening out of the house and the entertainment was relaxing. The wind kicked up as the sun went down and there was some difficulty with the sound system as that happened. But the music went on, everyone clapped and we had kind of a social thing. Sort of.

We'll figure it out. This was nice.
