Sunrise

I like to watch the sun rise and light up the back yard on a summer morning. But I am no early riser. I get up well after daybreak, make coffee and putter before heading to the patio.

That's when the sun finally clears the tops of the houses to our east, and sends a shaft of sunlight through the narrow gap between our garage and house.

It comes in through the gate as any proper visitor would.

And oddly, even though the sun moves throughout the seasons, shifting position in the eastern sky as it rises, that shaft of light always slants through the gate.

No matter what time of year or what part of the sky the sun is in, the light finds the gate, tickles the roofline of the neighbor's house, runs down the stucco side and then throws an angle of sunshine down the center of our yard, giving the crabapple in the middle a bright good morning. ☀️

I know it's physics and astronomy, but the pattern seems so intentional, so consistent.

Good morning.

Askew? It's pointing due north. And the time is accurate . . . within a couple hours, but we're relaxed here and that works!
