Sunshine in a Cracked Pot

And here we have a bit of sunshine after a rainy winter night.

We got half an inch of rain the other night, no snow. And witch hazel 'Sweet Sunshine' is starting to bloom, all yellow and bright in this longest and coldest of dreary southwest winters.

No fragrance yet, but it's still a young plant. I think slow growing Hamamelis needs a few years before the scent develops.

Because the cold has been so deep and so long (months of overnight temps in the teens), the witch hazel pot froze solid and has cracked on the far side. I'll have to do something about that in the spring.

Jim and I both have colds, he has jury duty downtown, and the winter has been one of the longest and wettest and grayest anyone here remembers. The windows still leak when it rains and February crawls along, but this bright golden mid winter sight does cheer me up immensely.

Sweet sunshine in a cracked pot.
