Midnight at Ten p.m.

We've been invited to a neighborhood New Year's Eve party. It will be all local neighbors, no one has to drive anywhere. It's being held at Frank and Joan's house directly behind us, just a few feet beyond our fence, although we have to walk all the way around the block to get to their front door.

It won't be a very large group. At the block party in September there were lots of people, and it was overwhelming to meet so many at once. Mostly since then we have gotten to know the immediate neighbors adjacent to us.

This will be a chance to re-meet some and get to know them a little better.

It will be odd to stay up til midnight to celebrate the new year, knowing it already happened two hours earlier back east. At ten p.m. I'll be thinking "It's midnight. 2018 has arrived in Connecticut".

Over the years it gets harder for us to stay up til midnight, so celebrating the new year here at ten p.m. sounds pretty manageable. The neighbors coming to the party are our age, and the invitations said the party would last "til the midnight of your choice". That works.

What an incredible year 2017 was for us. Selling a home, moving cross country, buying a home. Leaving friends and family. Finding new friends and being nearer other parts of the family. So much happened in this most eventful year. I'll raise a glass to it all at 10 p.m. this Sunday.
