An Adobe Abode

This will be our home in New Mexico. We just bought this house.

It is a small adobe abode (okay, stucco, but the look is very adobe pueblo), in a planned development on the outskirts of town. We're actually at the very edge of the city, but Santa Fe is small, and getting in to the center is easy and we are not at all far from museums, galleries, the plaza and everything we need for daily living.

The neighborhood is tightly clustered, but trees and good siting make it look inviting. There is a community swimming pool and exercise room just three doors down from our adobe abode, and to our immediate left a walking trail starts that wanders all over the community for miles. There will be no excuses for lack of exercise.

The back yard is a small enclosed courtyard with some nice stonework and plantings and a small deck. Although the houses are close together, the fenced back yard is private -- no neighbor's windows can see into our courtyard at all.

At the back corner under those aspen trees there is a sturdy potting bench just like the one Jim built me. It comes with the house.

The house is smaller than where we are now, without a basement and without an attic. But there is a two car garage with work benches and shelves, so there's some storage there. Three bedrooms means we have guest quarters -- small but functional, and soon to be ready for visitors.

The floorpan is open and roomy, the windows are big and sunny and the interior colors are southwestern and freshly painted.

The tile floors have decorative painted Mexican inserts, and much attention has been paid to pretty details throughout.

We'll be living there in August, in time for my birthday.

I look forward to more photos - good luck - you certainly act once you make up your mind - I remember when you were just adding solar panels to the CT house!

Ooof, the solar panels. I thought we'd get the investment back when selling the house, but we didn't. Still, I'm glad we did the panels and we've had free electricity for several years, so there's that, but no full dollar recovery of the investment : (

I have a highly landscaped 2 acres and I worry about who will ever want to buy it. I bet your buyers were attracted to the property for the gardens but then whether they can maintain things is another matter. At least you have beautiful lawns and men love cutting grass on their riding tractors. i hope you will take us along as you transition to the Land of Enchantment! I always enjoys your posts.

Thank you! I will post about the new place, although this summer is going to be so busy, and posts may be few for a while. You are probably right to worry about selling your beautiful 2 acres -- an intensively gardened space is not a real estate enhancement, at least for price. It did attract buyers, but, like the solar panels, it didn't add dollar value. sigh.
