Chocolate Chip

Isn't this a lovely plant? It's Ajuga 'Chocolate Chip" - what a great name. 🍪

It's a ground cover that forms a thick mat of glossy maroon tinged deep green foliage. In May it sends up dense spikes of purple flowers, creating a living carpet edging my gravel.

It's frequently sold here, adaptable to our conditions. It happily spreads from a few clumps into a sheet of solid cover that no weeds can penetrate. I felt pretty pleased with my success growing a small triangle of Chocolate Chip by the front porch.

This year it looked like this all through May and into June:

Do you think it all died? Yeah, I do too. All of it and all at once. I guess I'm reduced to getting my chocolate chips at the store now.

90% of the heather was winter killed this year.
Ajuga is rapidly moving into the space. Just plain old ajuga; like land armor. So sorry you lost Chocolate Chip.

Oh no, your lovely heather is mostly gone? That makes me sad (but I laughed at your description of ajuga moving like land armor!) Maybe the heather bit remaining will re-establish?
