Will We Ever Be Done?

Our deck needs to be replaced. Of course it does. We are not finished with home projects. Apparently we never will be.

When we first saw the house six years ago we knew we'd have to replace windows and we knew the kitchen was outdated. The courtyard gate needed a refresh. There were other repairs and updates we knew we'd want to do. But the house was a great price in just the right neighborhood and we have loved living here since the first day.

Endless projects to make it "ours" have been rewarding, some repairs have been frustrating, and new things for the home have been fun to shop for. We found a great handyman for the jobs that piled up. Major installations -- the windows and kitchen cabinets and new bath vanity top -- were completed by professional installers.

Our handyman came this week to replace the crumbling boards on the wood deck. So far it's torn up and new boards are ready to go on and be stained. The frame is fine, it doesn't need replacing.

The deck is one of the things I like most about our narrow back yard and it's a focal point that needs to look good and be restored back to its former condition.

But when he's done with that project, can we stop? Can we finally be done with all the home improvements?

Dream on . . .
