At It Again
We're at it again -- major disruptive construction. We're having the house painted and some stucco repaired. The snow from last week melted, the temperatures warmed up a bit, and the scaffolding went up.
Except for a large area on the patio where water was getting in, the stucco on the house is in good shape, newly replaced before we bought the house. But the garage was untouched and in need of some repairs, and after window and door replacements and a new kitchen door canopy, areas need patching and paint needs retouching around all the frames.
Finding a color to match the varying degrees of sun faded tones on different exposures was crazy. So the whole house will be painted a consistent color. The garage will finally match the house.
I spent a morning at the paint store overwhelmed with how many variations of tan there are. I picked one. It's going on pinkish, a big change from the existing khaki olive tan that I never liked, but it dries a soft rosy beige.
In the years since we moved in, we've had viga beams installed on the patio, a new entry gate built, all the windows and doors replaced, new kitchen appliances and re-faced cabinets, new bathroom fixtures and vanity countertop, a rebuilt canopy over the back door, full in-ground irrigation put in, and two fireplace mantel beams put up.
It seems like workmen are here all the time. They actually have been.
This house was perfect when I first saw it with the real estate agent in 2017. We knew it needed new windows and the kitchen was dated, but it was perfect. And yet here we are in our fifth year still going at it with fixes, major upgrades, and repairs.
When Santiago finishes, will we be done finally? I hope so. I can't imagine what more there is to do to this house, perfect as it was when we bought it.
Although . . . there are some spiffy upgrades lurking in my mind that may need to be considered . . . .

If you got 32 years between entry room refreshes, you did well.
