Why Move?
In 2017 my husband and I decided to move to the Land of Enchantment -- New Mexico.
We are both in our late 60s and have lived in New England our entire lives. We grew up in Connecticut, married and raised families in the state and worked entire careers in the same area. We retired and reached Medicare age and still we lived in the state we were born in, the Land of Steady Habits, geographically tiny, densely populated, beautifully wooded Connecticut.
And then we decided to move.
There were many reasons -- more favorable taxes, proximity to grown children and future grandchildren, lower humidity and milder climate, downsizing to something a man with a bad back could manage. And the scenery enchanted us.
So we spent the first part of 2017 cleaning out our Connecticut home, giving away and selling and purging all the possessions accumulated over six decades of living in the same area.
We made a trip to Santa Fe to house hunt, and we scoped out the area. We found a realtor, did our research and made preparations.
New Mexico is big and parts are empty and the views are unlike anything we were used to back east.
But it felt so right to us and even though we quailed at the thought of leaving the place we had spent our entire lives in and were saddened to leave a house we really loved, we felt we were ready.
This blog will describe our move.
