This Is Why

This is why it is hard to garden in the intermountain west. In May.

Cinco de Mayo brought us unrelenting rain, sleet, thunder and lightning that went on forever. All the day and night before too. Then it snowed.

This is why the nurseries tell you NOT to plant tender young things in Santa Fe until May 20. But I did.

It had been so warm and lovely in April, it seemed ridiculous to wait until almost Memorial Day to get my garden going and new plants planted.

Well, this is why they tell you to wait. The good news is it amounts to an inch and a half (an unheard of occurrence here) of soaking precipitation and what doesn't kill my plants will nourish them.

See me in August, I'll feel better about this by then.
