Goodbye Summer

The hummingbirds have left. The Virginia creeper vine on the back fence, always early to turn in fall, has hints of red at the edge of some leaves now, and it is no longer sending out runners to overtake the yard any more.

The cottonwood tree has some yellow leaves and they are dropping and drifting in piles all over my gardens.

It's lovely in the mornings and when the sun goes down, although the afternoons remain hot. But autumn is on its way.

Bye, summer. You went by too fast.
